Boomer Divorces Double?

Using data from the 2009 American Community Survey (U.S. Census), a Bowling Green State University study says Boomer divorces increased from less than one in ten (1990) to one in four (2009). That story was reported by Fox News today.

If the study and the data are accurate, there is plenty of room for speculation–especially since divorces, in general, have flattened out in the USA. What the story doesn’t point out is that Boomers, with their increase to a 25% divorce rate are still half of the overall divorce rate of 50%.

Any way you cut it, divorce is neither pretty nor desirable. Yet, it’s not as bad as the headlines make it out to be.

Boom on, Boomers. Live and let live.
